Girls in Tech to Launch New York Chapter
Saturday, September 13th, 2008
Girls in Tech, an organization that supports young, professional and influential women to succeed in internet, technology and digital media/entertainment business, will be launching its highly anticipated New York City chapter in conjunction with the well-known tech start-up conference, Web 2.0 Expo on September 16, 2008 at The Cutting Room in New York City. The celebration will carry over to an exclusive launch dinner on September 17th. San Francisco and local Girls in Tech leaders and advisors will be on hand both nights.
The organization was formed in March 2007 by San Francisco tech executive Adriana Gascoigne joined by tech entrepreneurs Jessica Valenzuela and Davina Anthony who host educational events, workshops, and social mixers for women in all facets of the business. The New York City chapter will mirror these efforts locally to help connect and inspire women of all ages in the tech and digital media/entertainment industries. In addition, Girls in Tech gives companies, partners and sponsors the opportunity to reach professional, career focused and like-minded women in tech through the organization’s efforts.
“It was a logical decision to expand Girls in Tech to the New York market, especially because it’s considered the business center of the universe, embracing tech, innovation, digital advertising, media and entertainment,” said Gascoigne. “We’re looking forward to growing the organization to connect and empower as many women in tech, nationally and around the globe.”
“Girls in Tech in New York is a significant convergence for technologists,” said Valenzuela. “We are dedicated to creating a place for women in technology to achieve their entrepreneurial and career goals.”
“I am compelled and impassioned to help create opportunities for women in technology,” said Anthony. “Girls in Tech is a social network enterprise that has its vision set on accomplishing exactly that.”
As part of the launch festivities, Girls in Tech will have a big presence at Web 2.0 Expo including a booth at the exhibit hall and powerhouse social mixer focused on the techie women of New York. The private dinner will help connect the organization’s representatives with local high-level executives in tech, digital entertainment and media for future efforts. The New York City chapter includes influential involvement from leading business and tech-savvy women from around the globe and will seek to mirror Girls in Tech corporate efforts locally.
“It’s an exciting time for the internet, digital entertainment and technology in New York City,” added Gascoigne about the upcoming launch. “We’re very happy to be adding another chapter that will make a difference in empowering the next generation of leaders!”
