Turn That Frown Upside Down

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Aren’t you just sick of turning on the boob tube or reading news blogs/vlogs that immediately expose your precious eyes to snapshots of guns, guts, blood and a bunch of sad, depressing, borderline psychotic episodes?

I definitely have issues with it (because I get nightmares and wake up with the idea that the world is going to end) so I just simply refrain from opening these forms of “sad/mad” media and am selective about where I receive my info. Most recently, I turned to HappyNews.com to obtain up-to-date information on national and international news that’s “Happy.”

What’s cool about this media outlet is that it offers citizen reporters the opportunity to share their happy news stories with the world. HappyNews.com also receives its stories from a handful of freelance writers and through various wire services, from which they pluck the most cheerful, happy-go-lucky stories of the day. Now, they don’t want people to just focus on the smile-evoking stories, HappyNews wants its readers to understand what’s going on around them, as informed citizens should, and serve as more of a supplement resource that enlightens and informs without bumming the heck outta people.

As mentioned in their website, for whatever the reason, HappyNews believes that there would be more talk about all the news if there was more positive content in the news to talk about. By combining positive news reporting with citizen journalism they provide new, unpublished writers with an amplified voice to give readers a great source for happy news rarely covered by regular media outlets.

It’s a great concept, as I am a firm believer in the glass is ALWAYS half full when filled with Koolaid!
