Straight from the heart
A few days ago a good friend and co-founder of BlueWhaleLabs, Gregarious Narain told me about his precious, new endeavor, “Lil’ Grams.”
Launched in New York City, Greg’s home town, Lil’ Grams is a real-time baby book designed to make it really simple for parents to capture the precious moments of their baby’s life and share it with their family and friends instantly. The idea behind the name came from the notion that people with babies wouldn’t have enough time to create their own blogs, so instead they could send out little telegrams or short messages that are delivered over the wire. In Lil’ Grams’ case, these nuggets of information contain fun facts about the baby’s life.
The inspiration behind Lil’ Grams originated from the birth of Greg’s son Aiden. Living on the opposite coast, his wife called to tell him that Aiden had just gone to the doctor and he now weighed 15 pounds. Unfortunately, she did not bring the tangible baby book with her to the doctor’s office to write notes or track growth cycles. Since Greg is a serious designer and entrepreneur he realized that he needed to create a microblog to track every little step of his child’s life in an easy and quick format that would allow him to upload notes, share stories and pictures with their friends and family.
There are approximately 1.6 million first-time Mom’s in the US a year. This is an ideal target for Lil’ Grams because first-time Mom’s are always eager and excited to find new ways of sharing every moment of their pregnancy, their baby’s birth and their baby’s growth cycle. Of course, they also welcome and hope that parents with their second or third baby will utilize this microblog to track those cute and quirky snapshots in a baby’s life. In addition, they are really focused on helping parents learn more about children’s disabilities, such as autism, tourettes and other developmental problems. The Lil’ Grams application is great for helping keep tabs on how a baby’s development is progressing and they hope that it will some day serve as a resource for the physicians and other professionals that are key to ensuring the health and happiness of a baby.
