A new kind (the good kind) of Social Network

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Social networks are for EVERYONE, especially those folks that have been tragically hit with a physical disability. When I was surfing around the world wide web and found Disaboom.com, I said to myself, “FINALLY a social networking site that caters to the people that really need it.” This site was founded to develop an interactive community to improve the way people live with disabilities and physical limitations. It’s an amazing healthcare, rehibilitation, informational, online resource for individuals with disabilities and their family, friends, caretakers and employers. It is also serves as a platform to communicate and interact with others with disabilities.

There are more than 54 million American adults living with disabilities or functional limitations today in the United States alone. Founded and designed by doctors and fellow disaboomers to meet this community’s specific needs, disaboom.com brings together content
and tools ranging from specialized health information to social networking to daily living resources, in a single interactive site.

As noted in their website, Disaboom.com was founded by Dr. J. Glen House, a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation who is also a quadriplegic. His firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and those whose lives they touch has driven the Disaboom.com mission: to create the first comprehensive, evolving source of information, insight, and personal engagement for the disability community.
