Five-a-Day Keeps the Doc Away
Raise your hand if you like the Farmers Market! Probably most of you at least like walking around the booths on Sunday (listening to overly energetic farmers sell their apples) catching whiffs and glimpses of the fresh, organic variety of produce the Farmers Market offers.
I particularly enjoy it because I’m a “Foodie” at heart (wikipedia says: Foodie is an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food and drink. The word was coined in 1984 by Paul Levy, Ann Barr, and Mat Sloan for their book The Official Foodie Handbook)
Well, if you’ve got this wild fascination with fruits and veggies like me (or if you just like eating healthy) check out this cool, new site: FruitAndVeggieGuru.com. It was created by food360°, a division of Vance Publishing Corporation to be a portal to everything you need to know about the yummy fruits and vegetables you enjoy.
FruitAndVeggieGuru.com also has neato-burrito veggie/fruit finder. It goes into probably more detail than you would ever need to know about blueberries, okra, or broccoli, yet it is very informative. It provides history, variety/availability, selection, preparation/uses, equivalents, handling, grades, nutrition, web sites, fun facts, and sources for a multitude of legumes and frutas.
If you want to take it a step further, you can find recipes, places to shop to find organic produce, how to encourage your kids to eat veggies and produce in the news.
